Dr. Elmasri had his training in Surgery followed by Radiology. He received his MD at the University of Khartoum, Sudan- School of Medicine. Dr. Elmasri did his Interventional Radiology fellowship at New York University Medical Center. After completing his training, he joined a private practice in Florida.

 

Dr. Elmasri joined the teaching staff of the University of Miami hereafter he joined the private practice and founded Lakeland Vascular Institute in Lakeland, Florida in 2008. He put up a group of 8 Endovascular Specialists and Cardiovascular Surgeons on this hospital, practicing the whole spectrum of open and endovascular surgery, thoracic and abdominal endografts, and peripheral interventions. This group showed its practices in a very active limb salvage program in addition to carotid stenting, stroke rescue, venous interventions, IVC filters, and PE/iliocaval thrombectomy. The institution became a centre of excellence for complex IVC filter removal with referrals from all over the State of Florida and from outside the State. It is a part of many national and international multicentre trials and is involved in the training of physicians on new devices.

Dr. Joseph Gemmete

Joseph J Gemmete, M.D., received his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from Wayne State University, Detroit Michigan. He thereafter obtained his medical doctor degree and completed his residency training in Diagnostic Radiology at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center and his Diagnostic Neuroradiology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, a Vascular/Interventional Radiology fellowship at the University of Tennessee, Memphis, and a Neurointerventional Radiology fellowship at the University of Michigan.

 

Dr. Gemmete has been on staff at the University of Michigan Hospital since 1999, performing both vascular/interventional and neurointerventional radiology procedures. He is certified by the American Board of Radiology, and has a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Vascular/Interventional Radiology and Neuroradiology. He is currently a Professor in the Departments of Radiology and Neurosurgery. He has 130 peer-review publications, 12 book chapters, and has presented over 100 abstracts at national and international meetings. He is an associate editor for the Journal Vascular and Interventional Radiology, Operative Neurosurgery, and Neurovascular Imaging. He is a reviewer for multiple journals.

Dr. Jeff Geschwind

Jean-Francois H. Geschwind, MD is the Chairman of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at Yale School of Medicine, Radiologist in Chief at Yale-New Haven Hospital, and also a Professor of Radiology and Oncology at Yale University School of Medicine. Originally from Paris, France, Dr. Geschwind received his medical degree in 1991 from Boston University School of Medicine. He completed his residency training in Diagnostic Radiology at the University of California San Francisco and Fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology in 1998 at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he remained on faculty and as the Chief of Vascular and Interventional Radiology since 2002.

 

Dr. Geschwind is recognized as a key expert in the field of liver cancer and he has focused his research on developing new therapies for liver cancer. He is the author or co-author of more than 400 published manuscripts and abstracts, primarily on subjects dealing with liver cancer, and is also the recipient of numerous national and international awards and grants for his research in this field. As lead or co-investigator on more than 50 clinical trials, Dr. Geschwind’s research has been published in many top peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Radiology, Hepatology, Clinical Cancer Research, Cancer Research and Annals of Surgery. Dr. Geschwind has edited two books including what is considered the textbook of reference in Interventional Radiology (Abrams’Angiography) and just completed the Second Edition of the first ever textbook on Interventional Oncology.

 

Dr. Geschwind serves on the editorial board of many journals, and is a consultant to the Editor of Radiology, Deputy Editor of European Radiology as well as a reviewer for numerous radiology, hepatology and oncology journals. He is also the current chairman of the World Conference on Interventional Oncology Board of Directors and is the chair of the Interventional Oncology Lecture Series for the RSNA. He is a Fellow of both the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) and the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Society of Europe (CIRSE). He is a member of the Hepatobiliary Task Force of the National Cancer Institute and an active member of the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the International Liver Cancer Association, the Radiological Society of North America, the Society of Interventional Radiology and the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Society of Europe. Dr. Geschwind is a Diplomate of the American Board of Radiology.

Barry T. Katzen, MD, is the founder and chief medical executive of the Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute, which has served as a national model of success in multidisciplinary cooperation. He is clinical professor of radiology and surgery, Associate Dean Clinical Affairs Baptist Health, Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, Florida International University; as well as at University of Miami, School of Medicine and University of South Florida, Morsani College of Medicine.

 

Dr. Katzen graduated from the University of Miami, School of Medicine in 1970, completed his internship at Jackson Memorial Hospital, residency at the New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center, and a fellowship in cardiovascular radiology at St. Vincent’s Hospital Medical Center and the University of Rome.

 

Dr. Katzen is one of the pioneers of percutaneous transluminal angioplasty, peripheral thrombolysis for less invasive treatment of vascular disease and was part of the investigative team that lead to the approval of the first intravascular stent. He performed the first renal angioplasty in the United States and is considered one of the founders of interventional radiology as a specialty of medicine. He is credited with being the first to use “live patient demonstrations” in the USA, which became the benchmark for procedural education in endovascular.

 

Among his awards, Dr. Katzen received the Society of Interventional Radiology’s (SIR) Gold Medal; the Annual Gold Medal award from the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE); and the Career Achievement Award from Trans-Catheter Therapeutics (TCT).

Dr. Edward Kim

Edward Kim, MD, is Director of Interventional Oncology and Assistant Professor of Radiology and Surgery in the Division of Vascular and Interventional Radiology at the Mount Sinai Medical Center. After completing medical school at the University of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey-New Jersey Medical School in 2001, he did his residency at Nassau University Medical Center and completed his fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He subsequently joined the division of Vascular and Interventional Radiology.

 

Dr. Kim lectures around the country on various subjects in the field of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, including chemoembolization, Y90 radioembolization, radiofrequency ablation, GPS navigation guidance for percutaneous procedures, biliary interventions and the endovascular management of endoleaks.

 

Dr. Kim’s interests are with the growing subspecialty of interventional oncology and is the principal investigator on various trials involving drug eluting beads for chemoembolization, as well as radioembolization. He is also a pioneer in the use of image guided interventions, particularly with regards to GPS and fusion techniques to decrease radiation exposure to patients.

 

Dr. Kim has authored various scientific abstracts and manuscripts in the field of Vascular and Interventional Radiology. He has also been invited as faculty at various meetings including The Society of Interventional Radiology Annual Meeting, Global Embolization Symposium and Technologies, Advanced Interventional Management and New York Roentgen Society Annual Meeting.

Dr. Saher Sabri

Dr. Saher S. Sabri graduated from the University of Jordan Faculty of Medicine in 2000. He completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Iowa in 2007 and his fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology from the University of Virginia in 2008. Dr. Sabri holds the American board of Radiology and Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Vascular and Interventional Radiology and is a board examiner for the American board of Radiology.

 

Dr. Sabri is an Associate Professor of Radiology and Surgery at the University of Virginia and serves as the Vice Chair of Education at the Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging and as a Director of the Radiology Residency Program. Dr. Sabri received several awards including the Dean’s Award for Clinical Excellence and the Charles J. Tegtmeyer Award of Clinical Excellence at the School of Medicine at the University of Virginia.

 

Dr. Sabri has more than 40 invited lectures, workshops and grand rounds, and has participated in more than 30 multicenter trials. He has authored or coauthored more than 30 peer reviewed articles, 10 book chapters and invited articles, and more than 70 abstracts.

Riad Salem, MD MBA is a Vice-Chair, Image-Guided Therapy and Chief, Interventional Radiology and Oncology in the Department of Radiology at Northwestern University, Chicago.

 

Dr. Salem is a graduate of McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He completed his radiology residency in Washington, DC and his fellowship in interventional radiology at the University of Pennsylvania from where he as well obtained his Master’s in Business Administration.

 

Dr. Salem is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and a Fellow of the Society of Interventional Radiology. He has lectured internationally and published extensively on the subject of image-guided interventions and interventional oncology. Recently, he completed his term on the NCCN guidelines panel for hepatocellular carcinoma (2007-2010). His current research focuses on hepatocellular carcinoma and includes advances in minimally invasive therapies as well as imaging methodologies following locoregional treatment. He serves as co-PI of 2 international, randomised phase III trials involving locoregional therapy (radioembolisation) and sorafenib (STOP-HCC, YES-p).

 

Dr. Salem’s areas of interest include the use of image-guided techniques for the treatment of malignancies. These include chemoembolization, bland embolization, radioembolization, and radiofrequency and cryo/alcohol ablation.

Zaid Husam Aldin was appointed as a Consultant Interventional Radiologist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Essex since 2010. He qualified in 1997 from Baghdad Medical School and undertook his basic surgical training at the Colchester University Hospital for three years. He was trained in all aspects of general and interventional radiology at the Imperial College Healthcare Trust. Mohamad Hamady graduated from medical school in 1989. Following 3 years of surgical training, he joined clinical and interventional radiology training at the American University of Beirut. He completed interventional radiology training at the King’s College, London in 2001 and he did 2 years of clinical research in IR at the Guys and St. Thomas’ Hospital, London.

 

Dr. Hamady joined Imperial College, London in 2003 as Consultant and Senior Lecturer in Vascular Interventional Radiology. He also works as an advisor to the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) on new interventional procedures. He is currently the vice chair of the Scientific Committee of the British Society of Interventional Radiology. Dr Hamady is the IR representative in the Clinical Innovation Team advising the clinical commissioning groups working for the National Health Service in England and Wales.

 

His research interests include robotic endovascular intervention and navigation, virtual reality simulation training of endovascular skills, and aortic stent grafting. He just started a research work on improving patient’s safety in IR.

 

Dr. Hamady has over 125 papers in peer-review journals and 12 book chapters. He has given more than 65 talks and keynote lectures in national and international scientific meetings.

 

He is currently developing, in collaboration with industry, a new generation of fenestrated/branched stent graft for thoracic-abdominal aneurysms.

 

Dr. Hamady has done the world-first robotic endovascular aortic repair in 2008 and the world-first robotic fibroid embolization in 2012.

Dr. Gerry O’Sullivan

Gerry O’Sullivan received his medical degree from the University College Cork, Ireland in 1990. After 2 years in internal medicine (MRCPI) he went into Radiology in Derriford Hospital Plymouth, UK, in 1993, transferring to St. George’s Hospital London in 1995. He passed the FRCR in 1997; and obtained CCST in 1998. He undertook a IR fellowship in the world-renowned Stanford University Medical Centre, Stanford, California under Michael Dake/Charlie Semba in 1998-1999. Dr. O’Sullivan was Consultant at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Chicago from 1999-2002 and has been a full time IR in Galway since 2002.

 

Dr. O’Sullivan is interested in venous disease and was the first awakened in Stanford nearly 20 years ago and has remained strong ever since. Currently Dr. O’Sullivan performs about 70% venous related work. Dr. ElSerwi started his training in interventional radiology in 2000 at Ain Shams University and had his training in interventional neuroradiology in 2003-2004 at Limoges, France. Upon his return to Cairo he joined the interventional neuroradiology team at Ain Shams University as well as other private hospitals to indulge in a full-time practice dedicated to endovascular treatment of neurovascular diseases. She had training courses in three different French Centers: GUI de Chauliac Hospital – Montpellier (Pr. A. Bonafé), Henri Mondor Hospital – Créteil (Pr. A. Dr. Hammami initiated the Interventional Neuroradiology activity in Tunisia in the public sector in 2006. Her primary field of expertise focuses on Interventional Neuroradiology. Khalil R. Hamza is an Interventional Radiologist and an Assistant Professor at the Faculté de Medicine, Tunis, Tunisia since 1985.

 

Dr. Hamza completed his education and training at the medical school at the University of Tunis in 1979 and did his Residency in Paediatric Surgery in 1980 and Neuroradiology in 1981. He did his international training in cardiovascular and interventional radiology from 1982-1986 in Paris, Lund and Luxembourg. In 1986, Dr. Hamza was the founder of the first Multidisciplinary Consultation of Vascular Malformation and Angioma in the African continent and the Arab world.

 

Dr. Hamza’s field of interest are hepatobiliary, uro-genital and vascular interventional radiology. During the past two decades, he conducted research, in interventional and visceral radiology, resulting in more than 60 publications mostly listed on Medline.

 

Dr. Hamza is regularly invited to the Medical Master’s Conference at the University of Tunis. He was keynote speaker and co-organizer of the First Pan African Interventional Radiology Congress in cooperation with the CIRSE at University of the Free State, Bloemfontein, South Africa in 2005. Dr. Haydar obtained his FRCR in 2008 and MRCP in 2005. In 2010 Dr. Haydar was appointed consultant interventional/trauma and cross sectional Radiologist at the Royal London and St. Bart’s NHS Trust, which is the largest trauma centre in the UK and the largest teaching hospital in Europe. He holds a dual appointment at the American University of Beirut Medical Centre where he is an Associate Professor of Radiology and Interventional Radiology. Moreover, he is a Clinical Associate in the Department of Medicine.

Dr. Jamal Hoballah

Dr. Jamal Hoballah received his MD from the American University of Beirut in 1981. He joined New York University (NYU) in 1982 where he completed his general surgery residency in 1987 and a trauma/critical care fellowship in 1988. He remained on the faculty at NYU for two years before moving to the University of Iowa where he completed his vascular fellowship in 1991.

 

Dr. Hoballah then joined the Department of Surgery at the University of Iowa where he became a tenured professor of surgery, director of the Vascular Surgery Fellowship program, and chairman of the Vascular Surgery Division in 2002. In 2007, Dr. Hoballah was appointed the surgical director of the University of Iowa Heart and Vascular Center. In 2008, Dr. Hoballah returned to AUBMC where he serves as the Chairman of the Department of Surgery, as well as the Head of the Division of Vascular Surgery since 2011.

 

Dr. Hoballah is Board certified in general surgery, vascular surgery, and surgical critical care. He has obtained an executive MBA from the Tippie School of Business at the University of Iowa in 2001 and completed a program on Leadership Development for Physicians in Academic Health Centers at Harvard School of Public Health in 2004.

 

Dr. Hoballah’s areas of clinical and research interest include endovascular surgery, infrainguinal revascularization, acute limb ischemia, and surgical education. He has authored and co-authored over 90 papers in peer reviewed journals and over 40 book chapters. In addition, he has been the sole author of a vascular surgery book and co-editor of six other surgical books. He also serves as a reviewer for several surgical journals.

 

Dr. Hoballah is a member of numerous prestigious surgical societies and has served as president of the Johnson County Medical Society and president of the Iowa Vascular Society. He served as an examiner for the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Vascular Surgery. He has received several awards including the Attending of the Year award at NYU in 1989 and the Teacher of the Year award at the University of Iowa in 1996. He has been selected to the Best Doctors in American list for several years. Dr. Hoballah is the past chair of the International Relations Committee of the American College of Surgeons. He is the Governor of the ACS Lebanon Chapter, chair of the International Governors workgroup of the American College of Surgeons and chair of nominating committee of the ACS Board of Governors.

Anis Nasser obtained his B.Sc. of Biology at the American University of Beirut in 1985, and graduated from the medical school at the University de Liege, Belgium in 1991. He studied radiology at the American University of Beirut and graduated with distinction in 1995. He trained in interventional radiology at the Hammersmith Hospital in London.

 

On his return, he created and started the Interventional Radiology Division at the Lebanese Hospital, Geitawi, performing all general and vascular interventional radiological procedures with special interest in spine and pain management. In 1999, he pioneered the use of nucleoplasty procedure in the Middle East for the treatment of discogenic pain and vertebroplasty/kyphoplasty giving several lectures and workshops. In 1999, he cofounded a private radiology center, the Doctors Center Radiology in Hamra, which became the market leader in Lebanon with full range of equipments covering all fields including an open MRI and 3T large bore MRI, PET scan and 160slice CT scanner.

Dr. Joseph Salame

Hicham Abada was born in Algiers. After he had completed his medical degree in Algeria (1992), he went to Belgium for a 5-year residency program in Radiology followed by one year of fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology in the leading academic department of radiology of the University of Brussels (Erasme Hospital). He then joined the department of vascular radiology of Broussais Hospital in Paris, France; before accepting a position in the Department of Radiology at Central Army Hospital in Algiers in 1999. He came back to France, in 2001, where he joined the department of Radiology of Rene Dubos Hospital leading the vascular and interventional radiology program for 5 years. In 2006, he joined VIR section of the department of radiology at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa, as an Associate Professor, he was in charge, in addition to his interventional radiology work, the peripheral vascular imaging program and was Director of the Uterine Fibroid Clinic as well. He joined the vascular and interventional division of the department of Radiology at the University of Kentucky as an Associate Professor in 2009. He recently moved to Abu Dhabi to lead the department of interventional radiology at CCAD in august 2014.

Hany Hafez graduated from Cairo University School of Medicine, where after he started his basic surgical training in the UK in 1991 and obtained his RCS Fellowship in 1993. He joined the North West London Specialist Surgical Training Programme and spent three years (1994-1996) as a research registrar and a lecturer at the St Mary’s Regional Academic Vascular Unit, Imperial College, London during which time he completed his PhD thesis in Thoracoabdominal Aortic Aneurysm Surgery. In 1998, he joined the Regional Academic Vascular Unit, University of Natal, Durban, South Africa as an exchange Senior Registrar for one year. During this year, he gained considerable experience in arterial trauma and complex infective arterial diseases. Upon his return to the UK, Dr Hafez joined the Academic Vascular Unit at Charring Cross Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital to complete his higher surgical training in 2001.

 

In 2001, Dr. Hafez was appointed as a Consultant Vascular Surgeon and Director of the Chichester Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme at the Royal West Sussex NHS Trust, UK. Under his directorship, the aneurysm screening programme expanded from covering a population of 150,000 in 2001 to 1.6 million in 2014. During his tenancy, Dr Hafez developed a new minimally invasive approach to open aortic surgery and performed the first allograft aortic replacement in the UK. In 2013, he was one of seven UK surgeons who performed more than 100 AAA procedures with zero mortality.

Dr. Alkoteesh established and managed the Radiology Residency Program at the SKMC and Tawam hospital.

 

Dr. Alkoteesh is a fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR), UK since 1999, and a member of the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Society of Europe (CIRSE). He is a HAAD Examiner for Diagnostic and interventional Radiology and a member of SEHA Radiology council in the UAE. He is a holder of the European Board in Interventional Radiology EBIR.

 

Dr. Alkoteesh has special interests in vascular intervention, carotid and aortic stenting; hepatobiliary; TIPS, arterial and venous embolization, TACE, tumour radiofrequency ablation; urological Interventional procedures; uterine fibroid embolization; breast interventions, and diabetic foot salvage interventional procedures. He has performed more than 10.000 Interventional Radiology procedures in the UAE during the last seven years including TIPS procedure in 4 year old child. He has published more than 30 publications.

 

Dr. Alkoteesh has been appointed by SEHA as the Regional Chairman of Clinical Imaging Department of both Tawam and Alain Hospitals to lead the Radiology integration in the Eastern region of the Abu Dhabi Emirates.

Mohammed Almekhlafi, MSc, FRCPC, is an Assistant Professor and a Consultant of Stroke Neurology and Interventional Neuroradiology at King Abdulaziz University (KAU) Hospital, Jeddah, KSA. He currently serves as the President of the Saudi Stroke Association.

After finishing his medical school at KAU, he moved to the University of Calgary (2005-2014) where he did his clinical training in neurology, stroke, and interventional neuroradiology. He completed his master degree in clinical epidemiology and won the Canada’s Governor General Gold Medal for academic achievement for his master thesis in 2013.

He has co-authored over 60 peer-review publications in journals (Circulation, Annals of Neurology, Neurology, and Stroke). These articles were cited over 800 times. He also serve as a peer-reviewer for a number of journals including the American Journal of Neuroradiology, Stroke, and Annals of Saudi Medicine and is a member of the Editorial Board of the Neuroscience Journal, Riyadh.

His research interests are in acute stroke workflow, endovascular stroke therapy, and meta-analyses.

Dr. Mohamed Almoaiqel

Mohammad Al Moaiqel joined the Vascular and Interventional Radiology Section at the King Abdulaziz Medical City, Ministry of National Guard, Riyadh, KSA in 2003 where he served as the Head Division of Vascular and Interventional Radiology as well as the Deputy Chairman of Medical Imaging Department. From 2004 to 2008 he was appointed as Director of the Residency Training Program in the Medical Imaging department. In 2010 he was recruited at the King Saud Bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences where he was appointed an Assistant Professor in College of Medicine and recently as the Director of Vascular and Interventional Radiology Fellowship Program.

 

Dr. Moaiqel graduated from King Saud University in Riyadh, KSA and completed his radiology residency at mcGill University in 2001. He successively received advanced fellowship training in both abdominal imaging and non-vascular intervention at McGill University in 2002 and vascular and interventional radiology at University of Toronto with the award of excellent performance in 2003.

 

His clinical interests includes the disease management, treatment of adult and pediatric vascular diseases and minimally invasive, image-guided therapeutic and non-interventions. Dr. Moaiqel performed minimally-invasive image guided procedures such as chest tube placements, percutaneous drainages abscesses, biliary drainages and feeding tube insertion. His focus is also venous access for dialysis and chemotherapy patients, angioplasties for renal access and peripheral arterial disease and embolization procedures for active bleeding, tumors and fibroids, RFA ablation for liver tumor.

 

Besides his interest in clinical service and research, he is passionate about resident and fellow teaching. He has recruited and trained several vascular interventional radiology fellows and has won several “excellence in teaching” awards.

 

Dr. Moaiqel is actively involved in vascular and interventional radiology research and he has published in prestigious journals as well as presented his work at national and international radiology meetings. He is a frequently invited speaker and moderator at national and international conferences.

 

Dr. Moaiqel is a senior member of the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Society, American College of Radiology, American College Roentgen Ray Society, Society of Interventional Radiology, Radiological Society of Saudi Arabia and American College of Phlebology.

Yaser Naji, MSc, FRCR, is a Consultant Interventional Radiologist. He earned his Medical degree and Master in Diagnostic Radiology from Alexandria University Faculty of Medicine, Egypt. He moved to the UK in 1999 and earned fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists in London while being trained at Chelsea & Westminster Healthcare NHS trust. Dr. Qazi is keenly involved in teaching academic activities of IR in his department. He is a member of Saudi Society of IR, the Interventional Radiological Society of Pakistan and CIRSE. He is the brainchild of development of IR in the Pakistan. He is founder of VIC famous IR teaching course in Pakistan.

 

Dr. Qazi is visiting faculty of Dow University of Health Sciences Karachi Pakistan developed the VIR setup in the medical imaging department which is providing the low cost quality care IR services to the people of Pakistan. He started the IR fellowship program in that institution which is the 3rd IR fellowship program in the Pakistan.
